Instacart Reveals The Top Trending Beverages You Should be Sipping This Summer

Now that it’s officially summer, summer sipping is in full effect, especially as the weather warms and we all look for a delicious diversion as semi-quarantine continues across much of the country. Last summer was undoubtedly the summer of White Claw, but what should you reach for this year if you’re looking to break out of your comfort zone and mix it up a bit? We took a look at buying trends across the Instacart marketplace and the guidance was clear: hard seltzer is still hot, but if you’re jonesing to branch out, hard kombucha is where it’s at.

“After a monumental summer of 2019, hard seltzer drinks are still wildly popular, but we’re noticing that consumers are itching to step outside their comfort zone by switching things up and experimenting with new brands and flavors,” said Laurentia Romaniuk, Instacart’s Senior Product Manager and Trends Expert. “Our data also confirms that following in hard seltzer’s footsteps, hard kombucha has tipped into a trend as consumers embrace the boozy version of their favorite healthy bevvie.”

Hard Seltzer isn’t cooling down anytime soon

According to Instacart purchase data, the already hot hard seltzer category grew a whopping 3.5x year-over-year as of June 2020. Although White Claw & Truly still lead the way as the two most popular brands according to Instacart purchase data, it’s impossible to ignore the influx of buzzy new players hitting the shelves.

Hard Kombucha, We Like You Mucha

Following in hard seltzer’s footsteps, hard kombucha is having a moment this year. Remaining largely flat year-over-year in the first quarter of 2020, the hard kombucha category on Instacart suddenly spiked at the end of March during the height of the COVID-19 crisis, increasing 50% in just under 3 months.
