- 1 28oz Can of Whole San Marzano Tomatoes
- 7 Jalepeños (10 if you’re feeling spicy)
- 1 Bunch of Cilantro (Cut off stems)
- 2 Green Onions (Cut off roots)
- 5 Garlic Cloves (Whole)
- Salt + Pepper to Taste
Additional Recommended Supplies
- Medium Sauce Pot
- Blender
How to Make Salsa Roja: Step by Step
- Rinse and cut the stems off of the Jalapeños.
- Heat up a medium saucepot to almost smoking.
- Sear your jalapeños so they’re brown on 2 sides.
- Add water to the pot until the jalapeños are submerged.
- Boil jalapeños until they are soft.
- Put the canned tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro, green onion, and garlic in a blender.
- Add some salt and pepper to taste and blend.
- Once it’s blended to your liking, check the seasoning and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve with chips, tacos, quesadillas, tostadas. Whatever you like salsa on.
- Additional Salsa-making Tip: Consider saving your boiling liquid to thin out the salsa if needed.
