10 Items or Less: Good Service Comes from the Heart

The Instacart community is as diverse as the items in the grocery store — every day, tens of thousands of individuals shop, deliver, and become an extension of people’s households. We want to share this community’s stories, highlighting Instacart shoppers, shift leads, and site managers all across North America. 10 Items or Less is a series featuring just some of the amazing members of the Instacart community, sharing their unique experiences and secret sauce with the world.

  1. What’s your name and where are you from? My name is Serg, and I’m from the San Fernando Valley in California.
  2. How long have you been shopping with Instacart? I’ve been a full-service shopper for two years.
  3. Why did you decide to start shopping with Instacart? After being laid off from a professional job during the pandemic and amid the challenges of finding work during the crisis, Instacart gave me the opportunity and I fell in love!
  4. What’s your favorite thing about shopping with Instacart? Amazing support, recognition from Instacart, and above all, serving clients. Reading their compliments makes my day.
  5. What 3 items are always in your personal shopping cart? Yogurt squeeze tubes, strawberries and whipped cream, and LaCroix.
  6. What’s a fun fact that would surprise us about you? I went to every Coachella music festival from 1999-2019. I found out about the pandemic from the 2020 Coachella cancellation email.
  7. What’s a shopping tip that a lot of people might not know (your “secret sauce”)? Be authentic and genuine in all dealings. Really good service comes from the heart and is obvious to your customers. Also, remember what your mama taught you about picking good produce. Good produce = 5-star ratings!
  8. What’s your “side dish” – a hobby, a hidden talent, another job you do on the side? Learning to mix and produce music, graphic art, and I am also an independent HR consultant.
  9. What’s one piece of guidance or encouragement you would give to the shopper community? Never forget that we are part of an elite team. Walk proud down the aisles at the stores. Many people would love to have our jobs.
  10. Anything else you want to share with the shopper community? Instacart’s CEO, Fidji Simo, is a personal hero of mine. Her humble beginnings, self-made success, and presence are inspirational! We also both love chocolate ice cream!
