Changes to Instacart in British Columbia
A new law was recently passed in British Columbia that impacts Instacart operations in the province. Due to these new regulations, we’re making several changes that go into effect as of September 3, 2024.
Changes to the shopper experience
Shoppers will receive a guaranteed minimum earnings amount of 120% of local minimum wage, as well as $0.35 per kilometer they travel while they are fulfilling orders. Shoppers can view their full pay breakdown directly in the Shopper app, and may be eligible for a weekly adjustment if their batch earnings are less than their guaranteed minimum.
Tipping and pricing changes
Tipping is optional as always, and customers will now have the option to tip their shopper after they have received their order. Customers will also see a new fee on their order as a result of the significant increase in operating costs under this regulation.
Each of these changes are being made as a result of the new law passed in British Columbia. As always, we will work to deliver the best possible customer and shopper experience despite the limitations required by new regulation.
