Instacart Launches Community Carts for 10 Los Angeles-based YMCAs, Unlocking Crowdsourced Donations for Victims of the LA Wildfires

As wildfires continue to sweep through Los Angeles County, we know that connecting temporary emergency relief centers helping care for tens of thousands of people to the much-needed groceries and supplies they need is more critical than ever.

At Instacart, we believe food is love and one of the most noble things you can do is help to feed others. That’s why, for the first time ever, Instacart is launching Community Carts for 10 YMCAs providing critical services to those in need.

Community Carts reimagine traditional food drives, making it easy for people to donate groceries and supplies directly from the Instacart App. Instacart has already unlocked Community Carts for more than 120 food banks across the U.S., and today’s launch creates a whole new way for people across the country to participate in crowdsourced cart building for good by donating groceries and supplies to 10 Los Angeles-based YMCAs. Instacart will waive delivery and service fees on all Community Cart orders.

To start giving, customers can simply open the Instacart App or go to www.instacart.com and tap the Community Carts banner or click instacart.com/donate. From there, they can select any participating YMCA and shop as many items as they’d like from the lists of essential items based on exactly what they need. Instacart shoppers will then deliver the items directly to the YMCA.

Whether donating baby formula, cereal and instant coffee or water, pasta and beans, every can of food and bag of groceries matters during this acute time of need.

We’re proud to create another way for customers to come together nationwide to support the city of Los Angeles during this devastating time. We remain endlessly grateful to everyone fighting these wildfires and to Instacart’s shopper community for delivering groceries to those in need. For a limited time, we are also waiving the delivery fee on all grocery and daily essentials orders of $10 or more for Instacart customers in Los Angeles county*. Delivery is subject to availability and delivery times may be delayed as we prioritize shopper safety.

For any emergency relief centers in the Los Angeles area in need of donations right now, please reach out to us at [email protected] to learn more about Community Carts. For more information about Instacart’s social impact efforts, please visit www.instacart.com/company/impact

*Service fees apply. Limited time offer, while supplies last. Delivery subject to availability. Does not apply to restaurant orders.
