Expanding Same-Day Alcohol Delivery in Partnership with Meijer to Reach Nearly 75% of U.S. Households

With alcohol continuing to rise as one of the most popular digital aisles on Instacart, we’re proud to announce the expansion of Instacart’s alcohol footprint in partnership with Meijer.

By partnering with Meijer to deliver alcohol from more than 180 store locations across Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, we’re now reaching even more customers and increasing our alcohol delivery footprint to nearly 75% of households in America. Meijer joins Instacart’s growing alcohol delivery and pickup offering, which spans more than 300 retailers and unique banners nationwide, including ALDI, Albertsons, ALDI, Costco, Food Lion, Publix, Safeway, Sam’s Club, and Stop & Shop. With today’s expansion, alcohol delivery on Instacart now reaches more than 85 million households across more than 17,000 partner stores.

“We’re proud to deepen our partnership with Meijer, bringing its expansive alcohol selection online and giving customers  even more access to Meijer’s one-stop-shop selection via same-day delivery. We know that alcohol ecommerce is a clear growth driver for our retail partners, which typically see their basket sizes increase by 25% with alcohol,” said Chris Rogers, Vice President of Retail at Instacart. “We’re committed to serving as a retailer enablement platform and providing grocers with more ways to bring their entire store online as they continue to grow and meet the evolving ecommerce needs of their customers.”

Instacart first introduced alcohol delivery in 2013 and continues to expand nationwide, particularly with the passage of local alcohol-specific legislation over the past year. We now operate alcohol delivery and pickup from more than 26 states and Washington D.C., including the recent addition of Iowa. Instacart also plans to launch alcohol delivery in Mississippi in the coming months.

Today, Instacart powers alcohol delivery and pickup in 26 states plus Washington, D.C., including Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. Instacart helps retailers of all sizes seamlessly offer customers their entire alcohol selection online for delivery and pickup. Instacart also helps retailers navigate the permit and approval process in partnership with state and local regulators for online alcohol delivery and pickup.
