Instacart and Feeding America® Team Up to Deliver Groceries and Essentials to Homebound Individuals in Times of Disaster

As part of our Instacart Health commitment to make nutritious food more accessible to all, today we’re pleased to announce an extended partnership with Feeding America® to facilitate the delivery of groceries and essentials to homebound individuals in times of disaster.

Instacart has been a long-time partner of Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Over the years, we’ve helped provide more than 10 million meals* to Feeding America member food banks across the country via fundraising campaigns, volunteer events and consumer activations.

With disasters like Hurricane Ian becoming stronger and more frequent, we felt a responsibility to do more to support food banks in times of disaster. We learned from Feeding America that there was a real need to better support homebound individuals who, for a variety of reasons, cannot make it to the food bank in the aftermath of a disaster. Many times, these are seniors with limited mobility, individuals with no cars or access to public transportation, or families with young children who for safety reasons cannot leave their homes to travel to a food bank or pantry. This is a population that we at Instacart are well positioned to serve via Care Carts.

Care Carts is a new product – introduced as part of our Instacart Health initiative – that allows organizations to order groceries on behalf of others. Using this new technology, Feeding America member food banks can now easily send fresh food and supplies directly to homebound individuals in times of disaster.

As part of this program, Instacart will be providing Instacart+ memberships to participating food banks to waive delivery fees on all orders above $35. We will also be offering technical and programmatic support to food banks to ensure that homebound individuals receive the supplies they need to safely recover at home in the aftermath of a disaster.

*$1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local member food banks.
