Instacart Celebrates Latinx Heritage Month with a Sazón Recipe Collection, Available on the Instacart App
Instacart will donate 10 meals to Feeding America, up to 250,000 meals*, every time customers shop a recipe from this limited-time collection
In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, Instacart sourced recipes from its Sazón Latinx employee resource group to share their rich Latinx heritage and traditions with the Instacart customer community. This year’s Latinx Heritage Month theme is sobremesa – celebrating the culture of gathering around the table with food and loved ones to build community and connections. In the spirit of sobremesa, Sazón has invited Chef Chris Valdes, Food Network Star finalist and author of One with the Kitchen, to join our community table this month and share his family’s favorite recipes representative of their Cuban heritage through the local ingredients, cuisines, and traditions.
The recipes from the Sazón Latinx Heritage Month Collection are featured on the Instacart app and are shoppable in one click for delivery in as fast as 30 minutes, making these meals accessible to anyone who wants to easily experience these rich flavors. What’s more – in support of Instacart’s mission to create a world where everyone has access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together, Instacart will donate 10 meals to Feeding America, up to 250,000 meals*, every time a customer shops a recipe from the Sazón Latinx Heritage Month Collection through October 15.
“Food has the power to connect us, and I’m honored to team up with Instacart to share my recipes and inspire others to cook, create, and learn about different cultures in the kitchen,” said Chef Chris Valdes. “I’m proud to create Latin recipes and share my Hispanic roots with people from all over the country and the world.”
“With food at the heart of the Latinx culture, Instacart’s Sazón community is excited to share its rich Latinx heritage through the spices, ingredients, and unique flavors that have been cultivated in family kitchens for decades,” said Natalia Montalvo, Instacart’s Sazón Employee Resource Group Co-lead. “Latinos are disproportionately affected by hunger and food access, which is why we’re proud to partner with Feeding America to donate 10 meals* every time consumers shop one of the collection recipes and share it with friends and family around the table.”

Our Recipes
To whet your appetite, here are a handful of the recipes from the Sazón Latinx Heritage Month Collection on the Instacart app.
Guava and Cream Cheese Empanadas
Chef Chris Valdes shares his favorite snack to make with his mom at their family Cuban restaurant and home in Miami:
“Growing up, I made this recipe with my mom at our family restaurant and home all the time. This recipe is delicious and easy to make, and for me, it always brings back cherished memories of being in the kitchen with my mom. I also firmly believe that nothing beats the joy of biting into a freshly baked or fried Guava and Cream Cheese Empanada.”
Chef Chris Valdes shares his recipe for Shrimp Enchilada, his mom’s favorite dish to make for any celebration they had growing up through the present day:
“To this day, the Shrimp Enchilada recipe is still my mom’s signature dish for any celebration, big or small. Everyone in my family raves about the flavors and colors, and it’s the perfect example of a dish that can take you back to a special place in time.”
Michael Rivera, an IT Onboarding Specialist at Instacart, shares a recipe for Carne Asada Marinade, one of his favorite Latinx-inspired BBQ marinades:
“Growing up in southern California, my family always made Carne Asada tacos when extended family and friends came over for special occasions. When I moved to the Bay Area several years ago, I decided to keep the family tradition alive and now I share these delicious tacos around the dinner table at my own home.”
Brazilian Cheese Bread – “Pão de Queijo”
Rodrigo Cordeiro, an Operations Project Manager at Instacart, was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil and grew up eating his mom’s favorite cheese bread which he often enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner:
“In Brazil, Pão de Queijo is part of many people’s busy everyday life. It’s often enjoyed as a quick bite in the morning with coffee or around the dinner table with friends, and the best part is how delicious and easy it is to make.”
The Sazón Latinx Heritage Month Collection also features unique recipes for Adela’s Flan, Three Cheese Chorizo Dip, Cuban Steak Sandwich with Pickled Jalapeño Aioli and Crunchy Potato Sticks, Cheese Arepas, A Tangy Tomatillo Salsa, and Empanada Dough.
¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Latinx!
