#GiveFromTheCart: Instacart Delivers Thousands of Grocery Donations to Food Banks with Community Carts

This past Giving Tuesday, Instacart launched Community Carts in partnership with Feeding America®. Community Carts is a new feature that reimagines traditional food drives, making it easy for people to donate items that food banks need most through the Instacart App. In just a few taps, consumers can select a participating food bank to support and shop items from their personalized wish list to be delivered directly to their door, taking the guesswork out of giving. This holiday season, we invited people to #GiveFromTheCart to support participating Feeding America® member food banks.

We’re proud to share that more than 2,000 Instacart customers generously contributed to a Community Cart, altogether donating more than 37,000 groceries and essentials to more than 100 Feeding America® member food banks across the country! Some of the most popular items donated include chicken noodle soup, peanut butter, mixed vegetables, canned tuna, green beans, and black beans.

It was inspiring to see that every participating food bank received donations through Community Carts – with the average donation rounding out to just over $50 and the largest reaching $730, supporting the FeedMore WNY Food Bank in Buffalo following the devastating blizzard that took place over the holidays. As a way to show our gratitude for customers’ generosity, during the week of Giving Tuesday, we matched every dollar spent on Community Carts orders and rounded up with a $100,000 donation to Feeding America®.

People from all 50 states across 1,590 zip codes joined the #GiveFromTheCart movement with a large share of donations going to food banks in major metros like New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, and Atlanta.

“We are so excited to partner with Instacart for the launch of Community Carts,” said Kyle Waide, President and CEO Atlanta Community Food Bank. “More than ever, the Atlanta Community Food Bank needs the community’s help to assist our neighbors in need and Community Carts allows donors to help fill our shelves while shopping for their own families. We are extremely thankful to be aligned with Instacart in this fight against hunger.”

As we kick off the New Year, we’re looking forward to finding more ways to make a difference in our local communities.

Happy New Year!
