Instacart Expands Presence in Canada with Addition of Sobeys, FreshCo, Farm Boy, and Longo’s on the Instacart App

Customers in Ontario can now find their favorite Empire Company Limited banner stores, including Sobeys, FreshCo, Farm Boy, and Longo’s, on the Instacart App for same-day delivery in as fast as an hour. Rolling out initially throughout Ontario, Canada’s largest province, over 5 million households can now order groceries and household essentials from more than 250 Empire banner stores on the Instacart App with plans to expand across Canada.

Empire’s banner stores have a deep-rooted history in Canada and serve Canadians across the country. Today, Instacart partners with the top five grocers in Canada and is available to approximately 90% of Canadian households, and the new addition of Empire stores on the Instacart App will make it even easier for customers to order their must-haves online for delivery. Empire joins more than 90+ retail banners in Canada to deliver from more than 6,000 locations across all 10 provinces that are available for same-day delivery on the Instacart marketplace. Ranging from grocery to pet supply retailers to arts and crafts retailers to discount retailers and more, Instacart gives Canadian customers even more selection and ways to shop their beloved retailers.

“Today is a significant milestone as we welcome the Empire banner stores on the Instacart App. It not only deepens our commitment to serving Canadian communities, but also enhances our mission to make grocery shopping effortless for everyone,” said Chris Rogers, Chief Business Officer at Instacart. “Growing up here, I’ve seen firsthand how local, trusted brands, like Sobeys, FreshCo, Farm Boy, and Longo’s, are woven into our everyday lives. With Empire stores now just a tap away on our app, I’m thrilled to bring even greater convenience to Canadians.”

“We are excited to be expanding our e-commerce offering and continuing to grow the market. Through this new partnership with Instacart, Empire has expanded how customers can shop our banners, giving us access to a larger segment of the e-commerce market,” said Doug Nathanson, Chief Development Officer, Empire. “We have proudly offered home delivery service to customers with our world-class Voilà platform since 2020 and now expand our reach to give more customers more choices, faster. That’s a winning recipe.”

Through Empire’s partnership with Instacart, customers will have access to Instacart’s community of tens of thousands of experienced Canadian shoppers to help with picking, packing, and delivering customer grocery orders.

Instacart’s technology helps shoppers fulfill orders and provide a quality customer service, with AI-powered recommendations and replacements, a user-friendly picking app, dynamic order routing, easy checkout, and more. Instacart’s technology lets retailers fulfill a variety of order types – from big and bulky items to specialty products like alcohol, prescriptions, or custom-made orders.
