Stovetop and Microwave Amounts: 1 Serving: 1 - 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup oats, dash salt (optional), Larger serving (This larger serving of oatmeal provides 3 grams of oat soluble fiber, which when added daily to a low saturated fat, low cholesterol diet may help reduce the risk of heart disease. A single serving provides 2 grams): 1 - 3/4 cups water, 3/4 cup oat, dash salt (optional), 2 servings: 2 - 1/3 cups water, 1 cup oats, 1/4 tsp. salt (optional). Decrease water for thicker cereal; increase water for thinner cereal. Stovetop; For chewier oatmeal: 1. Boil water and salt over high heat. 2. Stir in oats. Return to boil; reduce heat to Medium - Low. 3. Cook 8 to 10 minutes or until most of water is absorbed, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; cover. Let stand 5 minutes. For creamier oatmeal: 1. Increase water amount by 1/4 cup to ensure creamy consistency. 2. Bring water, oats and salt to boil over high heat; reduce heat to Medium. 3. Cook 10 to 12 minutes or until most of water is absorbed, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; cover. Let stand 5 minutes. Microwave: (one serving) 1. Microwave 1 - 1/2 cups water, 1/2 cup oats and dash of salt in large (2 qt) microwaveable bowl. 2. Microwave 9 to 11 minutes or until most of water is absorbed; stir. 3. Cover; let stand 5 minutes.
