What is a Scare Score?
Instacart examined Halloween-related purchase data, crafting a custom Scare Score for every American zip code that placed an order for Halloween candy, decor and costume items in October 2022.
Instacart’s Scare Score combines a few frightening insights:
- Candy: Total ounces of candy purchased & ounces of candy purchased per customer
- Costumes: Total Halloween costume items purchased & costume items purchased per customer
- Decor: Total Halloween decor items purchased & decor items purchased per customer
How we determine candy top-sellers and local faves
Instacart identified top-sellers in each zip code by calculating the total weight of each candy delivered in October 2022. For local favorites, we calculated which candies sold the highest share by weight above the national average.
