2012
Founded by Apoorva Mehta, Max Mullen and Brandon Leonardo, Instacart launches in the San Francisco Bay Area helping to deliver food from local grocers.
2013
The Express membership program (now known as Instacart+) is introduced, offering customers unlimited free delivery for a low monthly subscription fee.
2014
Instacart scales to 10 additional major metropolitan cities, including launches in New York City, Los Angeles and Portland.
2017
Instacart goes nationwide by partnering with key US grocery retailers while also expanding to Canada. That same year, the Instacart Ads business launches.
2018
Instacart acquires Unata–a Toronto-based tech platform powering grocery e-commerce websites–and launches its first enterprise offering for retailers including grocers.
2020
Instacart expands to serve new verticals including beauty, electronics and pets while growing the Instacart Shopper community to more than 500,000 across the US and Canada.
2021
Instacart continues to expand EBT SNAP payment integration nationwide, then acquires FoodStorm and Caper AI to bolster retailer technology offerings—all while welcoming new CEO Fidji Simo.
2022
Instacart launches Instacart Platform, a full suite of end-to-end solutions, enabling retailers to grow their businesses.
